ben in the shade

Ben Peterson enjoys some shade after giving it all at the 2013 Walla Walla Stage Race.

Todd Peterson reports on his son Ben’s experiences at Walla Walla:

“Toughest race I’ve been in” is what Ben said when he finished. As did many of the finishers. What gave it away for me was the salt from sweat and other “debris” dried on his face when I caught up with him at the end. Ben was caught in a group of riders that did not chase down a breakaway part way through the first loop yesterday. With the constant hill climbing and extreme winds bridging up on his own was not going to work and one else was motivated. He finished about 3 minutes behind the lead group and there were enough riders in it to move him to 21st in the GC. He’s pretty happy with his first Cat 3 stage results though. He was 2nd in the Cat 3 U-18 group of racers and 9th overall in the TT (he’s still amazed at that result). Overall a great outing for him. We gave him the day off today.

Great work Ben!

Our resident Masters World Champion Annette Williams was recently interviewed by Marilyn Trout for the Voler Blog:

I am blessed to have knocked on Annette William’s door to get to know her better. I first “met” Annette on her cycling resume while sizing up our competition for the 2012 US Masters National Track Championships, 50-54. Yikes. She made good on my impression and annihilated us all taking every event that she entered. Months later at the Masters World Championships in Manchester, she added another rainbow jersey to her collection.
